Learn to Learn

Paradigm Associates makes seven distinct learning methods available for use where appropriate.

These become combined in various ways according to client needs.

For the Brain

Spaced Repetition

Psychologists tell us that whenever we get exposed to a new concept or idea (unless a significant emotional event):

  • after one day, we will likely remember less than 50% of what we heard
  • after two days, less than 25%
  • after 16 days, we may recall as little as 2%

Alternatively, we utilize a method called spaced repetition. As participants consciously expose themselves to the same concept or idea for six different repetitions over time, they can increase their retention rate of that information to as high as 62% for a period that exceeds sixteen years. This result yields long term development and not just a short term training spike.

Learning Materials

Because of the effectiveness of spaced repetition, many of our processes use written and audio materials. These enable all participants to use the power of spaced repetition conveniently. When appropriate, an action planning tool that contains extensive evaluation sections and goals planning sheets gets added. Supplemental exercises and resources are used based on the specific needs of the participants. We custom facilitate every client.

Team Learning

Workshop Implementation Sessions

Workshop-oriented implementation sessions put practical application behind the material studied. The number, duration, and timing of sessions are determined based on each client's unique situation.

Break-out Groups

One of the best ways to develop participant commitment is to ensure that they are actively involved in the learning process. Creating break-out groups with each participant acting as a group leader and presenter keeps the participants actively involved. Through this experience, the group leader learns to tie individual experiences into a group learning process.

Make it Stick

Practical Application

During the process, the participants capture their major and secondary ideas and discuss how they are actively applying these concepts and ideas. These are reviewed and discussed for enhanced learning.

Built-in Motivation

One key element of the process involves the integration of personal goals with organizational results. As a result, the participants want to learn from the process. Participants want to realize their personal goals and achieve the resulting satisfaction.

Reinforcement to Ensure Continuity

For those situations where it is impractical to bring participants together, our facilitation remains flexible. Whenever one or more participants miss a session, a make-up session gets offered at a mutually convenient time. This touch-base session can answer questions, provide additional stimulation for thought about key concepts, or share updates on goal achievement. Technologies, such as teleconferences, Zoom, Teams, or Web-based meetings, are used to accomplish this reinforcement.
