Having tolerance among team members is not a team approach nor an approach to build employee engagement. Having a team goal of acceptance means understanding that members are different in values, beliefs, characteristics and behavioral preferences. The workplace as well as the world is big enough to hold our differences with the mutual capacity to enrich each other.

The truth is that you cannot be secretive when it comes to observing or listening to blatant indifferences or actions that cause painful reactions. Team leaders must clearly practice leadership that understands what beliefs are being communicated in your team as well as taking the time to examine and act on those beliefs.

Team communication and growth opportunities for team members can go a long way to help each of them discover approaches to understanding humanity. More importantly, sometimes team leaders might want to tap into external resources or professionals with high levels of skills who can help you work through serious issues. Move forward to find the help you need to reaching goal acceptance on your team.
